Frequently Asked Questions
Where do you provide services?
​All of our services are provided in the comfort of our clients homes. We serve Kailua Kona through Captain Cook on the West side of the Big Island.

Are you Bonded and Insured?
Yes, we are bonded and insured through Business Insurers of the Carolinas and have also been Background Check Verified. Any pet sitter you hire should be bonded and insured to protect you, the client!

What methods of payment do you accept?
Ohana Pet Sitters accepts Cash, PayPal and all major credit cards. 
Payment is collected before services will be rendered.

Do you board pets in your home?
No, I'm sorry, we do not. We recommend PAWS University or Lucky D Kennel for boarding.

How much notice do you need to provide services?
All of our services are scheduled on a first come, first served basis, so the earlier the better. Some of our clients book a year in advance! For new clients, we need to schedule a consultation first and recommend you call as soon as you know when you will be needing our services.

How do I get established as a client?
We will arrange a consultation in your home to meet your family and your pets. At this time, we will go over your pet's care instructions and have you fill out our client paperwork. After you have completed the client forms, you are established as a client and ready to schedule pet sitting services. 

How are my keys handled?
Client keys will be collected during the initial consultation. We can return the keys to you after your services have ended (for an additional fee) or we can hold them for you. Client keys are kept in a locked safe with a generic number on the key tag. We do not label client keys with any identifying information, such as your name or address.

What days of the week do you pet sit?
We provide services 7 days a week, including holidays.

What are your office hours?
You can reach us by phone Monday through Saturday from 8am-6pm. Closed on Sundays and major holidays.

If my pet gets ill or injured while I am away, how will that be handled?
If the pet sitter determines that your pet needs to be seen by a Veterinarian, we will contact you before taking him or her to your personal Veterinarian. However, if the sitter deems your pet's condition serious or life threatening, we will take your pet to the Veterinary Hospital immediately and will contact you as soon as they are under veterinary care. We always consider your preference in Veterinary Hospitals, but your pet may be transported to a closer hospital if the condition is life threatening. 

How long will the pet sitter visit with my pets?
As the client, you will decide the visit length and preferred time of day. We offer 30 minute, 45 minute, 1 hour and overnight visits, as well as quick potty breaks.  

What will a pet sitter do during visits with my pets?
Visits will usually consist of providing fresh water, feeding, playtime, outdoor time, and plenty of attention for your pet. Your pet sitter may also turn lights off/on, open or close drapery, collect the mail, take the trash out, etc.

Do you offer 24 hour care?
We currently cannot offer this service due to the high demand for pet sitting each day. Clients can book overnight stays and several daytime visits, but sitters are not able to stay 24 hours.

Do you administer medications?
Yes. Our sitters can administer your pet's pills, injections, supplements, etc. at no additional charge.

What if I have to cancel services?
Services are scheduled to plan pet sitter availability, so we do charge cancellation fees if services are cancelled within 7 days. The fees are as follows:

 0 - 48 hours prior: payment in full is charged (no refunds)
 2 - 7 days prior: 50% of service total is due
 8+ days prior: 100% refund

What types of animals do you care for?
We care for all animals, big or small! Whether it's cats and dogs or chickens and horses, we've got you covered!
